About this Game

Play gomoku online free — no download, no signup. Five in a row is one of the simplest strategy games to learn: place black and white stones on a grid, and the first to connect five in a line wins. Anyone can pick it up in 30 seconds, and a game wraps up in under 10 minutes. Perfect for a quick brain workout.

On Stone Online, you jump straight into a game — free, instant, and available in your browser. Practice against AI bots at four difficulty levels, then challenge real players worldwide. No accounts, no apps, no waiting.

Known as Omok in Korea, Gomoku in Japan, and Wuziqi in China, this game has captivated players across East Asia for centuries. Tournament play uses Renju rules to balance the first-move advantage.

How to Play

You play on a 15x15 grid board. Two players take turns placing stones, and Black goes first. Place one stone of your color on any empty intersection each turn. Line up exactly five stones in a row — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally — to win.

Under Renju rules, Black has forbidden moves: double-three (two open threes at once), double-four (two fours at once), and overline (six or more in a row). White has no such restrictions. The Swap2 opening rule makes the start fairer: the first player places two black and one white stone, then the opponent picks which color to play.

Game Modes

Renju
Black can't play double-threes, double-fours, or overlines (6+). This is the official tournament ruleset.
